Alabama sells freshwater and saltwater licenses separately — pick the water you'll fish. Required for ages 16–64 (residents 65+ and non-residents under 16 exempt). Alabama residents may bank-fish in their county of residence without a license. Public Fishing Lakes require the Freshwater Public Fishing Lakes permit add-on.

Rules & Regulations
- Closed seasons
- Most species year-round open. Red snapper (Gulf): federally set season, usually 3–5 weekends in June–July. Alabama state reef zone has extra days. Triggerfish + amberjack: federally managed micro-seasons.
- Catch limits
- Largemouth bass: 10/day, no min on most waters (12" on Public Fishing Lakes). Spotted bass: 10/day combined with largemouth. Crappie: 30/day. Red drum: 3/day, 16–26" slot (1 over 26" allowed). Speckled trout: 6/day, 15" min. Red snapper: 2/day federal season.
- Prohibited methods
- Gigging + snatch hooks restricted by water body. Bowfishing legal for non-game species (gar, carp, buffalo). No live bait restrictions on most waters.
- Catch & Release
- Encouraged for Guntersville trophy largemouth. Required for all goliath grouper, sawfish, Atlantic sturgeon (Gulf).
Lake Guntersville is consistently ranked among the top-5 largemouth bass lakes in the US — Bassmaster Classic host water. Mobile Bay is one of the most productive inshore fisheries in the Gulf. Dauphin Island for Gulf offshore.

- 60 miles of Gulf coastline + Mobile Bay. Gulf offshore rigs for red snapper, grouper, cobia. Dauphin Island is the main launch.
