Rules & Regulations

Closed seasons
Trout season opens first Sat of April (Mentored Youth Day prior). Muskie: open first Sat of May – Mar 31. Walleye: open first Sat of May. Some extended seasons — check regulations.
Catch limits
Trout: 5/day during open season 7" min (larger on heritage streams). Bass: 5/day 12" (catch-and-release only during certain periods). Walleye: 6/day 15" min.
Prohibited methods
Barbless hooks required on Class A wild trout streams (some). Fly fishing only on designated stretches (Delayed Harvest, Catch-and-Release).
Catch & Release
Required on all Heritage Trout streams and Delayed Harvest sections. Encouraged for Lake Erie steelhead.

Trout stocking: over 3 million trout stocked annually in 700+ streams + lakes. Lake Erie steelhead fishery is world-class Sep–March. Allegheny River for muskie + smallmouth.
