Rules & Regulations
- Closed seasons
- Varies greatly by region and species; usually open March-May and September-November. Spawning seasons (often June-August for Mahseer, winter for trout) and Buddhist holidays are strictly closed.
- Catch limits
- STRICT C&R only! Any removal or killing of fish is strictly prohibited.
- Prohibited methods

- Catch & Release
- ABSOLUTE REQUIREMENT! Bhutan practices this out of deep Buddhist respect for life. Negligent handling is strictly punished.
Bhutan considers fishing a high-end, ecologically sensitive leisure activity. Violations of C&R rules or fishing in sacred zones (near monasteries/Dzongs) have serious consequences.
