- No general closed seasons. National park regulations must be strictly observed.
- Catch limits
- Tarpon: Strict C&R requirement. Other species: Orientation towards the sustainability guidelines of the lodges.
- Prohibited methods
- Dynamite and commercial trawls prohibited in protected areas. Local regulations for the protection of biodiversity (2026).
- Catch & Release
- MANDATORY for Tarpon as well as all endangered species in the national parks.
Gabon protects 13 national parks, some of which include the coastline and lagoons. Fishing takes place mainly in the buffer zones of Loango and Sette Cama.

Practical Information
- Equipment
- Lodges often provide high-quality tackle. Your own heavy spinning and fly fishing equipment for Tarpon (10-12 wt) is highly recommended.
- Fishing guides
- Professional local guides are mandatory. Costs vary depending on the package (all-inclusive lodges are common).
- Transport
- Flights to Libreville, then domestic flight to Port-Gentil and transfer by boat or 4x4 to the lodge.
- Safety
- Medical precautions (Malaria!) are essential. Respect for wildlife (Elephants/Hippos on the beach) is essential.
- Customs & taking fish home
- Visa required in advance. Fishing equipment must be declared upon entry. French is the official language.
