60 multiple-choice questions (5 subjects × 12, official pool of ~650), on paper; pass with 45/60 AND 9/12 per subject (strictest per-subject bar in Germany); no practical part; several dates per year per county

Exam and license from 14; youth fishing license ages 10–16

Mandatory: recognized course (~30 h classroom, or online course + mandatory 8-hour practice day – recognized since 2019, an early adopter)
