Scotland has its OWN system (different from England)! There is NO state fishing license. You only need the permission of the water owner. For trout and coarse fish this is often cheap. Salmon rivers on the other hand are exclusive and expensive. Wild fishing for trout is free in some areas (Right to Fish).

- Salmon: Varies by river (typically Nov-Jan). Trout: October-March. Pike: No official closed season.
- Catch limits
- Salmon: Strict kill limits per river. Many rivers are fully C&R. Trout: 4-6/day typical.
- Prohibited methods
- Live bait fish prohibited. On many rivers only fly fishing for salmon.
- Catch & Release
- For salmon increasingly MANDATORY (Conservation Codes). Trout and pike: Recommended.
