Ukraine has huge waters with great fish stocks. The Dnjepr, the Danube estuary and thousands of reservoirs offer excellent fishing for catfish, pike and carp. The license system is simple and cheap. ATTENTION: Due to the conflict, travel in many parts of the country is currently not possible or dangerous!

Rules & Regulations
- Closed seasons
- General closed season: April-June (spawning time, varies regionally). Sturgeon: Protected all year!
- Catch limits
- Catfish: 2/day. Pike: 3/day. Carp: 3/day. Zander: 3/day. Daily catch limit max. 5 kg.
- Prohibited methods
- Dynamite, electrofishing, poison prohibited. Nets only with special permit.
- Catch & Release
- Increasingly widespread, especially for carp and large catfish.
Ukraine has some of the most productive freshwater waters in Europe. The Danube estuary (Kilija arm) is a hotspot for catfish and carp.

- Equipment
- Fishing shops in larger cities (Kyiv, Lviv). Basic equipment available cheaply.
- Fishing guides
- Dnjepr guide: 50-100 EUR/day. Carpathian trout: 40-80 EUR/day. Very cheap!
- Transport
- Flights to Kyiv or Lviv (if available). Rental car or train. Roads partly poor.
- Safety
- IMPORTANT: Active conflict! Many regions not accessible. Only safe western Ukraine (Carpathians, Lviv region). Observe travel warnings! Minefields near the front!
- Customs & taking fish home
- Visa-free for EU citizens (90 days). Fishing equipment no problem. Check current entry regulations!
