Slovakia has a well-organized system through the SRZ. You need the national fishing license plus a water license. For tourists there are simplified day licenses without exam. The Danube and Carpathian rivers offer excellent fishing!

Rules & Regulations
- Closed seasons
- Huchen: March-May. Trout: September-April. Pike: January-June. Zander: March-June.
- Catch limits
- Huchen: Mostly C&R only! Trout: 4/day. Pike: 2/day. Zander: 2/day. Carp: 2/day.
- Prohibited methods
- Live bait fish prohibited. Night fishing only at certain waters and with carp permit.
- Catch & Release
- Mandatory for Huchen! Increasingly for other salmonids. Night fishing carp: C&R standard.
Slovakia is a Huchen hotspot! The Danube between Bratislava and Komarno as well as the Vah and Hron hold good stocks of the 'Danube salmon'.

- Flight to Bratislava (or Vienna, only 60 km!). Rental car recommended.
- Safety
- Safe country. Mountain weather in the Tatra to consider. Bears in the Carpathians possible.
