Rules & Regulations

Closed seasons
Strict closed seasons for the Sevan trout (Ishkhan) as well as seasonal fishing bans for whitefish (summer/autumn 2026).
Catch limits
State catch quotas for whitefish (550 tons for 2026). Sevan trout: Strictly protected, C&R or strict fishing ban.
Prohibited methods
Nets, electrofishing and illegal fishing gear are strictly prohibited and will be prosecuted.
Catch & Release
Mandatory recommendation or requirement for endemic species such as the Sevan trout. Support for stock protection.

The Sevan trout (Salmo ischchan) is endemic and highly endangered. Fishing at Lake Sevan will be closely monitored by the Ministry of Environment in 2026.
