Scope

This privacy policy applies to all websites operated under the following domains: fishingworldguide.com, fishingworldguide.de and angel-karte.de.

Hosting

This website is hosted by Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA. Vercel processes personal data on our behalf. Details can be found in Vercel's privacy policy at vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.

Data processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in the reliable provision of our website.

Server Log Files

The hosting provider automatically collects and stores information in so-called server log files, which your browser automatically transmits. These are:

  • Browser type and version
  • Operating system used
  • Referrer URL
  • Hostname of the accessing computer
  • Time of the server request
  • IP address

This data is not merged with other data sources. The basis for data processing is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

Cookies

This website does not use its own tracking cookies. Only technically necessary cookies are used for website operation. Our affiliate partners (see Affiliate Links section) may set their own cookies when you click on external links.

Analytics Tools

We use Vercel Analytics or Plausible Analytics to evaluate user behavior on our website. These tools work without cookies and without storing personal data. No individual user profiles are created.

Data processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is in improving our website. A cookie banner is not required for these tools, as no personal data is processed.

SSL Encryption

For security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential content, this site uses SSL or TLS encryption. You can recognize an encrypted connection by the fact that the address line of the browser changes from “http://” to “https://” and by the lock symbol in your browser bar.

Contact

If you contact us by email, your details, including the contact data you provide, will be stored for the purpose of processing your inquiry and for possible follow-up questions. We will not share this data without your consent. Processing is based on Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (pre-contractual measures) or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest).

Newsletter

We provide an email newsletter via Resend (Resend, Inc., 2261 Market Street #4839, San Francisco, CA 94114, USA). Subscription uses Double-Opt-In: after submitting your email you receive a confirmation email; only after clicking the confirmation link is your subscription activated. We store your email address, selected language group and a cryptographically hashed confirmation token in our Neon database (Frankfurt, EU). Confirmed subscribers are managed in a Resend Audience with one Topic per language. Processing is based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). For data transfers to Resend in the USA we rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (EU Commission adequacy decision of 10 July 2023). You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email or manage individual language topics on the Resend unsubscribe page. More info: https://resend.com/legal/privacy-policy.

External Images

This website loads images from external services: country flags from flagcdn.com and landscape images from Unsplash (images.unsplash.com). When loading these images, your IP address is transmitted to the respective servers. This is necessary for displaying the website. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the appealing presentation of our content).

Affiliate Links

Our website contains affiliate links (marked as advertising) to third-party providers, including GetYourGuide, FishingBooker, Amazon, Saily and Klook. If you click on such a link and purchase a product, we receive a commission from the respective provider. This does not affect the price for you.

When you click an affiliate link, you will be redirected to the third-party provider's website. Cookies may be set: FishingBooker (90 days), GetYourGuide (31 days), Saily (30 days), Klook (30 days), Amazon (24 hours). The respective provider's privacy policy applies from that point.

Travelpayouts

We use Travelpayouts (Travelpayouts Ltd., Cyprus) to manage and optimize our affiliate links. The embedded script (tp-em.com) analyzes existing travel links on our website and replaces them with tracked affiliate links. Cookies with a lifetime of up to 30 days may be set. Processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in monetizing our content). For more information, see the Travelpayouts privacy policy at https://www.travelpayouts.com/privacy.

Third-party widgets

To finance our free service, we embed widgets from affiliate partners, in particular GetYourGuide (GetYourGuide Deutschland GmbH, Berlin) and Travelpayouts. These widgets appear, for example, when hovering over affiliate keywords in article text and in dedicated card blocks on country and blog pages.

The embedded widget scripts may load additional third-party resources when initialised, including Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com) and JavaScript libraries (cdn.jsdelivr.net). Your IP address is transmitted to these providers' servers, some of which are located outside the EU (in particular the USA). We do not permanently store or associate the IP address ourselves.

Legal basis for this integration is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in financing our free editorial content through affiliate commissions). You can prevent script execution via common browser extensions (e.g. uBlock Origin, NoScript) or by enabling your browser's DoNotTrack setting.

Cookies and Consent Management

On your first visit to our website, we display a consent banner where you can accept or reject the setting of non-essential cookies. We distinguish three categories: (1) Necessary cookies (theme selection, language preference, storage of your consent decision — always active, technically required); (2) Statistics (Google Analytics, Vercel Analytics — only with your consent); (3) Marketing (affiliate tracking from FishingBooker, GetYourGuide, Amazon — only with your consent). Your decision is stored locally in your browser under the key fwg-consent. You can withdraw your consent at any time by clearing the cookies in your browser or by re-opening the settings via the corresponding footer link. Legal basis for non-essential cookies is Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent).

Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) to analyze how our website is used. We employ Google Consent Mode: until you have consented to the Statistics category, only cookieless, anonymized signals are transmitted — no cookies and no user identifiers. Full measurement with cookies only takes place after your consent. Once consent is given, Google Analytics collects pseudonymized usage data such as pages visited, session duration, browser and device type, traffic source, and approximate location. IP addresses are not logged or permanently stored by Google Analytics 4. Google Analytics sets cookies (notably _ga and _ga_*) with a duration of up to two years. Data processing may also occur outside the EU (USA, Google LLC); for the data transfer to the USA, Google relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (EU Commission adequacy decision of 10 July 2023). The legal basis for the cookie-based measurement is Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent). For further information see Google's privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy. You can object to the processing at any time by adjusting your consent settings.

Grow by Mediavine

We have integrated the “Grow by Mediavine” script (grow.me) from Mediavine Inc. (USA) on our website. Grow is a reader engagement tool (e.g. bookmarking articles, sharing features) and also measures how our website is used in order to enable monetization through the “Journey by Mediavine” advertising program. In the process, usage data (pages visited, interactions, browser and device information) is processed and identifiers are stored in cookies or in your browser's localStorage. The current purpose of the processing is the evaluation of our website for the Journey advertising program; after acceptance, the script will additionally serve advertising and provides its own consent management for this purpose (IAB TCF v2.2 Consent Management Platform), through which you can grant or refuse your advertising consent. Data processing also takes place in the USA. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in measuring the reach and monetizing our offering) or Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent), where such consent is given via the consent management. For further information, see Mediavine's privacy policy at https://www.mediavine.com/privacy-policy/. You can object to the processing at any time, e.g. via the settings in the consent management or by deleting the cookies and localStorage entries in your browser.

Catch submissions (Catches feature)

Logged-in users can submit their own catches with photo, GPS spot, date and optional story via the Catches feature. We process the following personal data: (a) your email address for account identification and magic-link authentication (passwordless, 15-minute login token, sent via Resend, Inc., USA — see Newsletter section for the legal basis of the third-country transfer); (b) GPS coordinates of your spot — we store both the exact coordinates (visible only to you) and a randomly offset "fuzzy" position (default ±5 km) for public display. The per-catch privacy setting (Exact / Fuzzy / Region / Country) determines what is publicly shown; (c) photos of your catch — we strip all EXIF metadata (especially GPS tags) before upload and store the optimized WebP files at Vercel Blob in the EU Frankfurt region (fra1); (d) optional: display name, bio, home country, avatar, username slug for your public profile; (e) notification preferences (which events — e.g. catch approved, spot shared — should trigger an email); (f) spot sharing: when you grant another user the exact spot of a catch, we create a SHA-256-hashed magic link, valid 90 days and single-use. Recipient email and creation/expiry timestamps are stored; (g) anti-spam: we store a SHA-256 hash of your IP address for 60 minutes to rate-limit submissions per hour — the raw IP is not persisted. Legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (contract performance — providing the Catches feature) for mandatory fields and Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent) for optional profile fields and notifications. Data is processed and stored in our Neon database (Frankfurt, EU). You can view your data, delete individual catches (soft-delete with 30-day recovery), pause your account (all catches instantly hidden), change your email (two-factor confirmation via old and new address), request a data export, or fully delete your account (anonymization keeping your stats under a pseudonym, or hard-delete including all photos) at any time via /me.
