In Austria la pesca è di competenza dei Länder: ognuno dei 9 Länder regola carta di pesca, esame e carte ospite. Principio generale: carta ufficiale del Land più permesso del gestore delle acque. In 7 Länder su 9 i turisti possono pescare con una carta ospite senza esame.

Due documenti
A differenza della Germania, in Austria servono sempre due documenti: la carta di pesca ufficiale del Land (una tantum, di solito dopo un esame) e un permesso del gestore per l'acqua specifica (giornaliero o annuale).

Licenze straniere
Tutti i 9 Länder riconoscono in qualche forma l'esame di pesca tedesco — dalla carta diretta (Vienna, Bassa Austria) al requisito per la carta ospite (Burgenland, Tirolo).
